F
arnham Rugby RUFC’s first
team has enjoyed a terrific
start to the season and the
club also has a fantastic set up off the
field. General Manager Rebecca Watson
recently took the time to tell us more
about the good work the club has been
doing lately.
Involvement
She told us, “I’ve been here since 2008
and started working for the club in 2010. I
then became General Manager in June of
this year. The role is very full on; the club
is a huge entity with a number of events
running alongside the rugby. It’s a role
that I’m thoroughly enjoying – I get on
with everybody here and we have a lovely
time.”
Community
“Farnham is very much a community
club; not only do we do rugby , we also
have cricket, American Football, Aussie
Rules and host annual community games
for Farnham in August so there is always
a lot going on here. We’ve got some
fantastic facilities here now and that is
helping us to involve the local area in
what we’re doing here.”
2015/16
“The atmosphere is amazing here at
the moment, boosted by the first team
winning their last three league games
to take us to second place in the table. It
will be really good to see the first team
win promotion after coming down last
year. Ultimately our focus is on ensuring
that people are enjoying their rugby and
encouraging anyone with an interest in
the game to come along and see what we
have to offer.”
Atmosphere
“We offer a great place for people
to come and enjoy sport at our club and
always look to provide people with a
warm welcome. A lot of people have
come along to attend the World Cup
fixtures that we’ve shown and everyone
enjoys the atmosphere. Next week we’re
hosting a fireworks event at the club and
it’s great to see how we’re coming along –
I love being a part of it.”
Youth
“We have a huge mini/junior section
starting at U5s and going up to Academy
level with each group having up to 50 or 60
children each. Then we’ve got 120 senior
players which includes our veterans all
supported by a huge social membership
which is just getting bigger and bigger.”
Challenges
“Our biggest challenge moving
forward will be keeping the momentum
up. We do well year on year and we need
to keep doing so. We’re into the fourth
season of our new building and facilities
and we just need to maintain Farnham
Rugby Club as a place to come for our
Members to enjoy. It is important to keep
the balance between hosting events and
keeping our members happy because first
and foremost we’re a rugby club but it is
also a business.”
Ambitions
“In the coming years I think we’ve just
