In 1780 Edward Bland Corney’s shop opened in London’s Old Broad Street and in 1838 his son Thomas introduced his cousin Robert Barrow to the business and the Corney & Barrow name was born. Still privately owned, Corney & Barrow has grown nationally and internationally, into every sector of the market. We have sales offices in London, Edinburgh, North Yorkshire, Hong Kong and Singapore. We also run shops in Newmarket and Ayr. We have built exclusive relationships with suppliers, making our selection of wines unique. Our fine wine portfolio is full of illustrious names such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Bonneau du Martray, Comte Georges de Vogüé and Clos de Tart – to name but a few. Quality and value are what we search for in a wine, no matter what the price range. We aim to offer benchmark styles, wines which we believe to be the best examples of a wine style, country, or region, whether they are for everyday drinking or wines to be put away in the cellar. We believe wine should offer a sense of place. Find out more about Corney & Barrow, either visit our website www.corneyandbarrow.com, send us an email, or give us a call on 020 7265 2430. There are a number of plans for the Foundation in the future but from what we’ve been doing so far it has been very successful and we’re looking to expand over the coming months. “From a playing point of view this season we want to get back to being in top form. We finished eighth last season which was a disappointment for us based on the standards we have set previously and we want to get back into the top four and be challenging for silverware. Two years without a trophy is a long time for us so we want to correct that this season. “There have been some huge signings this season with the likes of Adam Jones, Jamie Roberts and James Horwill coming in. The main thing for these players coming in is that whilst they’ll be able to help develop young players they also want to be starting every week which is important for us. “We want to lay the foundations in the coming years for the club to survive for another 150 years. We want to be a profitable, sustainable establishment that doesn’t have to rely on its owners to make up the difference. “One thing we are very keen to do is expand the women’s game. Last year was the first time we hosted the London leg of the women’s sevens series and that was a great success following on from regularly hosting the England side. This coming season we’ll be hosting England v Ireland and England v Wales. “We also want to increase our worldwide appeal. We’re recognised as one of the top rugby brands in the world and we want to build on that through our partnership with the USA. Our work in this area will also provide us with a chance to learn from other countries to ensure we continue to be an innovator within the English game.” 28 Issue 58
