First established in 1873, Greenock Wanderers is a club with a proud history that continues to be a progressive establishment
looking to expand their role in the local community. President Steven Anderson recently took the time to talk with Rugby
Club Magazine recently.

He told us, “I first joined Greenock Wanderers in 1978 as a School
Boy. It was the natural progression for players from what was
then the Greenock Academy. The most challenging part of my
role is trying to compete as an Amateur Club within a league that
is becoming more driven by money. We don’t pay players and
find it difficult to retain our best players when other clubs offer
financial reward. The most rewarding thing is to see the volume
of kids coming through our youth policy. Whether we can retain
them or not it is great to see a youngster fulfil their potential.”
