This Season
“We are looking forward to showing off our new strip, and
building on the successes of last year. We had a number of
successes, not least our Vectis U15s who are current County
champions. They are the only team from the Island to have been
crowned Hampshire champions, three times in total.
They first won as U8s playing tag rugby and also as U13s and
U14s. What makes this feat even more impressive is that, as
with all our age groups, they have a very small pool of players
to select from, just 20 players. Their success has been rewarded
with seven of the squad being selected for the County squad for
the 2014/2015 season.”
Development
“The ethos of Vectis is Inclusivity, Rugby for all, whatever the
ability. We work closely with Hampshire RFU and our Local
52 Issue 57
development officer to ensure that our coaches are up to date
and our training sessions are designed to be fun and varied and
help the children achieve the best that they can. We also work
closely with our senior club partners and our colts play at all
their grounds, ensuring they have a good feel for which club they
may wish to play for as an adult.”
Volunteers
“Vectis, like most other rugby clubs, is run by volunteers.
Through the generosity of others’ valuable time and experience
we provide children on the Island with the full experience of
rugby. We are always looking for people to help us - the more
parents that come forward and help the easier it is for everyone.
You don’t have to know anything about rugby to help the club.
Many of the coaches started as parents who had children
who wanted to play and have filled coaching vacancies at U7
or U8. But coaching is only one area that the club needs help
