west dublin bears FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG with many local businesses helping the Bears over the years as sponsors.” Youth “Youth rugby, as to all clubs who not only want to take part now but want to continue to grow, in the future is very important. Rugby League in Ireland is slowly growing and gathering more interest from youths of all backgrounds and sports. The introduction in 2014 of the under 19s competitions between Leinster and Ulster which was organised by Anthony Mc Creery and Conor Kelly in Lenister and Wayne Kelly in Ulster along with the support of RLIs Richard Egan has opened up Rugby League to schools all over the country. This year alone compared to last year we have had more than double the amount of people interested in taking part in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland teams. Players making the switch from other sports that would dominate rugby league in popularity like G.A.A., soccer and rugby union at school level are proof of how much the sport has grown in Ireland and shows that the future of League is bright.” Ambitions “The ambitions the Bears have for the next five years is to grow not only as a team that can compete against any other in Leinster and Ireland but to develop a system to encourage younger players to join a club that is considered one of the best in the country. We also want to secure our own private grounds and clubhouse which would establish us as the first ever rugby league club in Ireland. We would also like to introduce rugby league to more people from other sports backgrounds and hopefully introduce the game to schools at a young age. I hope to see the success the Bears have had over the last two years grow and grow with more of our players getting calls up to represent their country on an international level. I also hope to see the bond that is made from being a Bear and part of this club continue on down the years to the future brother Bears.” “The ambitions the Bears have for the next five years is to grow not only as a team that can compete against any other in Leinster and Ireland but to develop a system to encourage younger players to join a club that is considered one of the best in the country.” 66 Issue 56
