leicester lions Leicester Lions L eicester Lions RFC is a terrific example of a well-run community establishment that is making progress both on and off the field in recent times. They are based at Westleigh Park on Lutterworth Road and their first team currently competes in National League 2 North. “I first joined the previous version of the club when I was around 25 years old. I played up until about 10 years ago, stopping when I was 40. I’ve been involved mainly with the Leicester Lions Juniors now with my lads. They’ve come through the system and being involved with the club was terrific for them. For me the best part of being involved with the club is watching the young players come through the system and ending up playing in the seniors. I would like to see the club benefit from a new clubhouse in the coming years and develop their ties with the community further, providing juniors with a clear pathway right through the age groups to make it into senior rugby at whichever level suits them best. One of my best memories came from playing in the Boxing Day Game where former players would come back and play in a game against the older guys. That’s always a terrific day all around and I think at the moment it stands at 3-2 to the young ones! As they are becoming young men it is becoming a bit more difficult and hurts a little more! I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the future.” Bob Brown of club sponsor Bob Brown Plumbing http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/leicesterlions- Twitter : @leicesterlions1 www.sportip.biz 59
