bugbrooke Bugbrooke B ugbrooke RUFC is based at Camps Close in Northants and their first team currently competes in the Midlands 1 East League. They are led by the team of President David Pope and Chair Adam Ogden and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. The team first started out in the early 1970s when they played as a Sunday social side with a number of people in the village already representing other clubs on a Saturday. At the time the team had a nomad existence and played a number of their games against Long Buckby RFC. One major point in their history came when they started up their Junior Section in 1985 with a Colts team introduced later for the 1988-89 season. A mini section was added in 1995 to ensure that the club was as inclusive as it could be. Last season their first team put together a solid league campaign as they compiled a record of thirteen wins and thirteen defeats from their 26 matches. This saw them finish in a safe mid-table position in the league with 63 points on the board. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to push on and have a successful campaign in 2015-16. As long as they can retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they will be confident of claiming a higher league finish this time around. Since first being established, the youth section at the club has come on significantly and is now a crucial part of their set up. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area that they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their juniors can progress over the coming years.
