perranporth Bob Job of club sponsor The Watering Hotel took the time to tell us more about his involvement with the club, saying, “I first started to play for Perran back in the mid-70s. I was always a social rugby player and the atmosphere at the club has always been very good. “I’m now President at the club having captained the side for many years and have been Chairman as well. We’re one of their main sponsors as well now and are happy to help out wherever we can as a company. “The mood down at the club is pretty good; we had a tag contest down at the beach recently which was a great success. The junior side of the club has become very, very strong which is great for Perranporth. I think there are around 200 youngsters involved across the age groups now and that can only be good for the club. “We were pretty happy with how the season went last year, getting to the semi-final of the cup. It depends a lot for Perranporth on which players we have available as it can be difficult to get the same side out every week. They kept it all together quite well though and ended up doing what they wanted in the league as well. “There are plans to build a larger clubhouse to cater for the large number of people we have involved with the club now and that would be a major boost. Over the coming years I’d like to see the minis section continue to grow to ensure a successful future for the club. “We’ve gone up the leagues a few times but I think we’re at about the right level at the moment so it would be good to stay there. It depends on the players a bit as to whether we look to push on. It takes a lot of dedication to move through the leagues and I think we’re quite happy enjoying rugby at the level we are at.” www.pitchero.com/clubs/perranporthrfc www.sportip.biz 51
