limavady Limavady L imavady RFC is based at the John Hunter Memorial Grounds at Desmesne Place and their first team currently compete in the Kukri Qualifying League Section 2. They are led by Chairman Harry Faulkner who is supported by Secretary Michael McCloskey and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. The highlight of their campaign last time around came in the Gordon West Cup when they defeated Larne 46-8 to claim the trophy at the Kingspan Stadium. Speaking after the triumph to www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk, Head Coach Paul O’Kane said, “I think that type of score was coming.” “In the three games we’ve played against them this year we’ve dominated but just been unable to score. Sometimes we don’t take our chances, and that’s what has cost us dear in the league this season, but the game plan worked well here. “I think we’ve a pack that could play a few leagues higher up, and the backline can be a work in progress sometimes, but we were fantastic from one to 20. “It’s obviously good to get that monkey off the back with regards to Larne and they’ll go up and good luck to them. “We’ve a young team but hopefully we can use this as a springboard and have a team that stays together for a good few years.” It will certainly be exciting to see how they are able to progress over the coming years. One of the highlights of the Limavady set up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate. Their coaching staff are optimistic that they’ve a number of exciting young talents in their ranks. In order to help ensure that these players enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game they also run additional sides. This allows their young players to gain experience of adult level rugby even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. www.limavadycrfc.co.uk - Twitter : @LimavadyRFC www.sportip.biz 43
