Rugby Club Issue 56 | Page 33

lisburn We used to host ladies rugby which had to come to an end. However with the recent success of the Irish ladies team this year there has been a considerable uplift in interest to the extent that plans to reinstate a ladies team will be made once the coaching resource becomes available.” Youth “Youth rugby is incredibly important to not only Lisburn rugby but to all the schools in the immediate area. We boast one of the largest pools of ‘Mini’ rugby in Ulster and our Youth section has a silver plated history behind it. To demonstrate, in this year’s schools cup final which sees the two best U18 school sides play each other for the title; there were 8 players on that field who had come through our youth section. This demonstrates how important and valuable youth rugby is at Lisburn.” Challenges/Ambitions “Like most sports and social clubs, finance is the obvious challenge that comes to mind. However from a general viewpoint there is a considerable age gap across senior rugby in Ulster with a lot of school leavers not continuing the sport into their 20’s. Maintaining a competitive senior side and investing in our youth will continue to be our focus for the years to come. We aim to become a challenger force in Kurki Qualifying League 1, which is one league above us currently. We will ensure our minis and youth system continues to thrive and feed into the senior club and we want the clubhouse to continue to be a focal point in the community for players, supporters and families in Ulster.” www.lisburnrugby.co.uk - Twitter : @lisburnrugby www.sportip.biz 33
