rugby football and enjoying themselves. It also bonds them for
their futures as they tour together at the end of the season to
different parts of the country.
We are hopeful next season to start a women’s side at the club.
We have launched with the schools an incentive to attract
females into Rugby, as it seemed to be growing in Wales. We
hold bingo, once a week for people from the local estate, which
also attracts interest. Once a week we also hold an Alzheimer’s
work shop at the club, which is an important part to the local
community.”
Facilities
“Our new clubhouse is probably the best in Wales with a large
function hall which holds 200 people. We hold charity events,
Weddings, Birthday parties, etc. We get complements regularly
on the clubhouse from away sides and the after match food is
the best in the Championship thanks to our catering staff.
The ground at the moment has one of the best playing surfaces
in the league, but over the next two years we have planes to
improve it even further to allow us to progress to our ambition
of premiership rugby in Merthyr.”
Commercial
“On the commercial side we have a team which work very hard
with local firms to get sponsorship which is a very important
part in the development of the club. We are fortunate to have
Miller Argent come on board as our main Club sponsors this
season and have also agreed to for next as well and we are
grateful to all people and firms which support the club.”
Challenges/Ambitions
“The biggest challenges over the next 5 years are to sustain our
place in the WRU Championship and push for a place in the
Premiership. The Championship is very competitive and it will
be a big challenge for us as a club, but I think with a little help
from certain people we can achieve our goal.
We have a great set up both on the field with coaches Lee
Jarvis, Garry Horrigan, and Jamie Ringer leading the side to
success, and off the field we have a strong committee which
work hard to make sure we succeed.”
