merthyr Merthyr FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG I t is an exciting time to be involved with Merthyr RFC as they look to strengthen ahead of next season with the target of securing a place in the Welsh Premiership. Their Team Manager Paul Lewis took the time to discuss all things Merthyr with Rugby Club Magazine. Involvement He told us, “I have been involved in the club since the age of 15. When I was at school I always played football, but when a new sports master arrived he was rugby mad and one Saturday the team was short and I have played ever since. Several lads from my school and other schools whom I played football with got me involved in Merthyr RFC Youth Under 19s. This was a big eye opener for me playing for my town youth side, but I can recommend it to any youngster as it brought me out of my shell and I learned the importance of a team and enjoyed sport both on and off the field. I was also fortunate to travel with the club to places which if it wasn’t for rugby I would never have seen. California, Vancouver, Boston, New York, New Orleans, Portugal, Spain, France, to name but a few, great times.” The Role
