I
t is an exciting time to be involved with Merthyr RFC as they look to strengthen ahead of next season with the target of
securing a place in the Welsh Premiership. Their Team Manager Paul Lewis took the time to discuss all things Merthyr
with Rugby Club Magazine.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been involved in the
club since the age of 15. When I was at
school I always played football, but when
a new sports master arrived he was rugby
mad and one Saturday the team was short
and I have played ever since.
Several lads from my school and other
schools whom I played football with
got me involved in Merthyr RFC Youth
Under 19s. This was a big eye opener for
me playing for my town youth side, but I
can recommend it to any youngster as it
brought me out of my shell and I learned
the importance of a team and enjoyed
sport both on and off the field.
I was also fortunate to travel with the
club to places which if it wasn’t for rugby
I would never have seen. California,
Vancouver, Boston, New York, New
Orleans, Portugal, Spain, France, to name
but a few, great times.”
