Brynamman
B
rynamman RFC has enjoyed a memorable season this time around which culminated in them defeating Gowerton by
23 points to 17 to take the West Wales Bowl Trophy. We caught up with their Honorary Secretary Eric Griffiths to gain
an insight into what has been behind their success.
He told us, “Having been brought
up in the village it was natural
that I played for Brynamman; this
started in 1964 at the age of 15
when I played for Brynamman
Youth. I then went on to
play for our 2nds and 1sts
respectively until I retired
in 1983 at the age of 34
having played over 500
games for the club.
“Towards the end of
my playing career I
decided that i wanted
to give something back
to the club so I joined
the committee and, at
the age of 35, I became
Assistant
Secretary
responsible for running
the clubs 2nds. In 1987 I
became Club Secretary due
to the retirement of George

so the most challenging aspect
for our club now is to keep hold
of our players and the most
rewarding is to see this season
that the clubs 1st XV is made
up of 85% of players from
the village.
“The mood in the club is
very good, as this season
has gone well under new
coaches Mark and Craig
Jones and we finished
3rd behind Pencoed and
Maesteg in Div 3 West
Central just missing out
on promotion. We have
also won West Wales
Bowl Cup final where
we played Gowerton
who were champions of
Division 2 West this season.
Our 2nd XV also reached the
final of the Llanelli & District
Cup Final where they played
Felinfoel.
“The only downside this season
is that for the first time in thirty
years we have not got a youth
