the attitude of the players has been
instrumental to our success. The
support they show one another on and
off the pitch is a vital part of what we’ve
achieved.
“We will have a break until the 1st week
of July now and then preseason will
begin. We will also look at strengthening
the club by extending the junior section
and introducing 2nd team rugby. It is
important for us to ensure that Abercarn
RFC maintain its strong reputation. That
the club generates a good player base
and an environment on and off the field
to do it justice is our ambition.”
They also have a developing Mini/
Junior section and we caught up with
the Head of the Section Kris Kinsey to
find out more. He said, “I have been
involved with the club since I was born
as my father Kieron and his 2 brothers,
Keith and Kevin both played for the
club.
“Youth rugby has been gone from the
club for nearly 20 years now as I was in
the last youth side at the club in 1998. A
couple of ex-players of the club have kids
around the 7 year old age and decided to
start the mini rugby section at the club
rather than go to established mini and
junior sides around the area.
“It is the first mini side ever at Abercarn
and it hasn’t been an easy process but 2
years on and things are developing with
more players this year and hopefully
more again next year after recruiting and
holding fun days this summer coming.
“We have a mixture of boys and girls
playing with us at present and currently
have around 13 players in our under 7s
squad. This year they played 36 games,
winning 34 of the games. The club
is very much a community
club with the number of children and
partners a
