KEYNSHAM Keynsham K eynsham RFC is committed to providing the local community with a vibrant sporting outlet focused on improving the standard of rugby they play. Rugby Club Magazine caught up with their Chairman David Thorpe to find out more about the good work they’ve been doing. Involvement He started by telling us about his involvement with the club, saying, “I have been at the club for the last nine years. This is my first season as Chairman after four as Mini’s Chairman. I brought my son down to play when he was six and slowly started helping out with car parking, Barbecues, and finally coaching and playing.” The Role “Everyone has their own expectations of what a club chairman should be but really a chairman can only get things done with the help of the membership. A rugby club has a lot of different types of members, from 6 year old new players, through to parents, social members, players, coaches and Veterans and all have their different needs. The challenge is to get the members to look at the club as a whole. So the majority of my role is helping and cajoling different parts of the club to work together. When it works that is when it is most rewarding.” “The majority of my role is helping and cajoling different parts of the club to work together.
