rainey
old boys
as they can retain their current group of
players and perhaps make one or two
quality additions they should be in with
a good chance of doing just that.
Following on from their disappointing
campaign the decision was made for
Richard Boyd to step down from his
position as Head Coach. His Assistant
John Andrews has taken on the role and
has begun making plans on how to take
the club forward in the future.
Confident in the young talent at the
club, Andrews is targeting a top four
finish next season at first team level as
they look to integrate their promising
youngsters into the set up. It will
certainly be interesting to see how they
are able to get on next season.
Although the 2014/15 season was
something of a disappointment there
were still plenty of individuals who could
be proud of their performances and the
end of season Awards night was held to
recognise their efforts. Jody McMurray
picked up the Player of the Year Award
for the First XV whilst Tommy O’Hagan
was recognised as the most improved
player.
The other Player of the Season Awards
went to Eunan Shaw/Michael Barr
in the 2nd XV, Conor O’Kane in the
3rd XV and Mattie Miller in the 4th
XV. Brian Smyth was presented with
the Clubman of the Year trophy with
Chairman Oliver McShane being given
the Janet McFarlone Memorial Salver for
Contribution to rugby in the club.
One reason for the club to be optimistic
about the new season is the fact that
they have recently announced the
appointment of Ireland and Ulster centre
Luke Marshall as backs coach for next
season. He will join up with Director of
Rugby and Head Coach John Andrews.
