R
otherham Clifton RUFC has enjoyed a terrific season this time around, winning promotion to Yorkshire 4 and
capping off the campaign with victory in the South Yorkshire Bowl. Their 1st XV Captain Danny Brookfield took the
time to give us an insight into what has been behind their success.
Involvement
Atmosphere
He started by telling us about his involvement with the club,
saying, “I have been with Rotherham Clifton for approximately 5
years; I was impressed with the dedication and ambition shown
by the coaching and backroom staff.
I love the fact that the club is still a very family orientated club,
most clubs have lost this attribute over the years, and that we
all regard each other as family, from team members to coaching
staff and the fans as well.”
The Role
“I would describe the mood at the club at the moment as ecstatic
– there is a real buzz around the place at the moment on the
back of our most successful season ever. We are working hard
to restart our junior section, looking to capitalise on our success
at senior level, continuing the social media ‘#cliftonrevolution’
campaign by running some tag events over the summer.”
Success
“Next season is a big challenge for me, keeping the club in
Yorkshire 4 and looking for a further promotion in the near
future, but I know that we have a great coaching team and the
back room staff to make it happen.
The most rewarding part of my role is helping the younger
lads on the team develop as players and passing my knowledge
on and off the pitch. I also enjoy setting goals with the coaching
team and making them happen on the pitch.”
104 Issue 55
“We worked very hard over the close season in 2014 to provide
the team with a much better home ground at Herringthorpe
Stadium, better kit and equipment, and improved pre game
preparation. We have looked after all the small details, enabling
the players to just concentrate on the match. In addition, we have
recruited a small number of high quality players strengthening
the squad.
The coaching and leadership team set 2 key targets for the
season, promotion and being unbeaten at home. We have never
wavered from our commitment to meet these objectives, and
everyone in the club stood behind them.”
