Gwyn Clack recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his
association with Nantymoel RFC, “We are long term sponsors of the
club with my business G & E Clack Discount Carpet’s and Furniture
and have a long association with the club.
My father, William John Clack was a club VP and a good supporter
for many years. Unfortunately I don’t get to see many games as my
grandson Sam plays football and rugby on the weekends which I take
him along to. It’s great to see the club doing so well this season and
I would like to wish everyone at Nantymoel Rugby Club continued
success.”
“I have been involved with Nantymoel RFC for 33 years having joined their youth
team as a 15 year old. At the time of joining, Nantymoel were the only local side that
had a youth team and myself and a couple of friends joined at the same time.
I have had various roles in the club, Team Manager, Mini & Junior Secretary and
most recently Assistant Treasurer and the most challenging and satisfactory role has
been the Mini & Junior role, trying to organise between 3 and 4 teams on a Sunday
morning was always challenging but then seeing the kids enjoy themselves playing
rugby was always satisfying.
Club morale is good at present, the senior 1st XV has just won their respective league,
the Mini & Junior section is also doing well and the different age groups have won
a number of tournaments this year, the seconds have done well and we hope to
continue with our youth side next year.
We are a small club in a small Valley community; we are in a period of consolidation
for the overall running of the club at the moment and will continue to do this for the
next couple of years. After this period we will probably look to promote the club
within the community a little more.”
Club Representative Anthony Hopkins

the running of the club. We encourage
all sections to be involved and have
many ex-players already coaching the
mini, junior and youth sections.
“Sian Gunner, Mini and Juniors Sec,
has worked tirelessly to ensure the
transition is as seamless as possible
and all have the support of the general
committee as well as their own sections.
Mini and juniors are present at senior
games as ball girls and boys and take
an active part in the rugby club.
“A member recently said to me, ‘is
promotion the right way to go?’ I
believe the players can only improve
if they have the chance to play against
better teams, test themselves and see
how far they can push themselves.
Why not compete in Division Two and
higher?
I think we are capable of playing in
the Millennium Stadium in a final
and I believe the players believe this
themselves but for the moment, we
are just happy to have won the league
this season. We have strong 1sts, 2nds,
Youth and mini sections. If we can
maintain this and build on it, the rest
will follow.”
Club Representative Colin Beaton also
took the time to speak with us saying,
“There’s a brilliant mood at the club at
the moment with winning the league
and going unbeaten. We’re starting to
get more players involved and we’re
also looking to get a ladies team up and
running for next season.
“The numbers for the minis has been
increasing as well and the only issue
we need to address is the drop off
between the ages of 16 and 19. The club
is definitely doing well with a lot going
on and we work really hard to be a
community set up.
“The club’s success comes from the
results on the field which have created
a buzz around the club so we’ll be
looking to retain that. Since Paul Speck
has taken over as Secretary he has had
a really good impact having tightened
the belt initially and now we’re seeing
the benefits of that.
“Next year we want to hold our own
in Division 2 and I think that we have
the talent here to be a Division One
Club. ]
