brynmawr FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “All 3 teams have had a great season so far. Last season our senior team almost disbanded due to a lack of players. Due to some former players returning to the club in December 2013 and avoiding relegation by winning 11 of our last 14 games, we have built on last season by recruiting young ambitious local players and find ourselves top of Division 2 East with one game left to play. “Our youth team was resurrected last season after an absence of 6 years and they are 2nd in the Youth Dragons D league with every chance of winning their league. With only 2 youth players moving into senior rugby next season, our youth team should be a force next season. “Our U14s were a new team set up last season and are building on their success and now have a playing squad of 30 players, special thanks must go to the parents who are up early every Sunday morning to ensure their children get to the matches. “Youth rugby is vital to our club as these players will be the future players of the senior team. With less senior teams running youth teams in the area, I wonder where the players are going to come from to allow these clubs to keep fielding a team. Three players who came through our youth team and have gone onto represent Wales. Dominic Roberts recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Brynmawr Rugby Club, “I fought in over 20 competitive boxing bouts and never picked up a scratch but after only one game of rugby I ended up with a bloody nose and a black eye; I decided rugby was not for me. It’s the likes of Rob Kershaw that put their all into the club who make Brynmawr such a great place to be associated with. I became involved when the guys were at a low and it was and continues to be a pleasure to support them in any way I can. The club are so grateful for everything they receive that I just want to help them all the more. This season has been nothing short of outstanding and I look forward to seeing their progress in Division one, well done to everyone associated with Brynmawr RFC!” 88 Issue 54
