newcastle emlyn Kevin Thomas is a multiple sponsor and current Chairman of Newcastle Emlyn Rugby Club. He recently took the time to tell us about his positive association, saying, “I was the club’s 1st Captain and that was 40 years ago. I came through the junior and youth system at the time and I was with my dad at the meeting where the formation of the club was announced. I’m sure he was delighted to have a club close by and not have to travel far to take me along to training. It has been 5 years since I joined the committee and this is my 1st year as club chairman. We are fortunate to have great coaches and player coaches at our club in Marc Lloyd, Arwel Davies and Charles Gale and our junior and youth section coaches keep producing excellent players; more recently Stefan Thomas who stepped up for Wales and his brother Gareth who runs out for the Osprey’s. We have also produced some great female talent in Sioned Harris who scored two tries for Wales Ladies in a recent match. We have to run our club like a business and our fairly new clubhouse has worked very well for us with myself and some members being involved in its initial construction. We cater for many functions and have 3 weddings planned in June. At our local derbies we have between 80-100 people dining with a two course meal before the match and include many events like guess the score and the man of the match which is not just for the seniors but also for our 2nds, youth and juniors. This year all our committee have been given a players shirt which ensures we all turn out in our best on matchday. The truth is our club wouldn’t be doing so well if it wasn’t for the wonderful support we enjoy and the involvement we have from everyone associated with us. I find that if anyone is asked to perform a task it is carried out without question and to a high standard. In times past we have lost players to clubs in higher leagues however we are finding now th ]
