newcastle emlyn FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Newcastle Emlyn N ewcastle Emlyn RFC came into the season with the target of stabilising themselves in their new league. However as the campaign draws to a close they find themselves in with a real chance of claiming the title with the small matter of the SWALEC WRU Plate Final on Sunday 3rd May as well. Secretary Chris Jones took the time to give us an insight into what has been behind their success. He told us, “I have been involved with the club since its creation in 1977, in fact I was the person who called the Public Meeting to see if there was an interest in the forming of a rugby club in this part of the Teifi Valley. I was appointed secretary at that meeting and have held that post ever since. “Now that I have retired from playing the most challenging aspects of my role are ensuring that everything is in place for the benefit of the players, coaches and members when it comes to match days. The most rewarding aspect is always to hear or see that all three Senior sides i.e. 1st & 2nd XV and Youth, have won on a Saturday. “The season is heading towards a fantastic climax and could be the best season we have ever had. We’re in the final of the WRU SWALEC Plate competition and are 5 points behind the leaders but with 2 games in hand in the league. Our 2nd XV have won their League and are in the semifinal of their Cup competition. 48 Issue 54
