nant conwy this season and have been declared champions of the Youth Section in North Wales after their latest win last Saturday. They are also through to the semi-final of the North Wales Youth Cup as well. The lowest ‘win’ percentage of our Junior Teams is 81% whilst the highest is 98%. e.g. our Under 14 side were really proud last Sunday when they entertained the touring side [Reeds Weybridge] who had an unbeaten record for 4 years. Nant Conwy won the match 31 - 15!” Progression “Three players from the Club are playing on a regular basis for RGC 1404 - the local Welsh Championship side whilst two explayers have represented Wales recently. One was the Wales Under 20 Full back last season whilst the present Welsh Ladies Senior Full back also spent all her Junior and Youth years at Nant Conwy.” Community “We are most certainly a community club. It is heart-warming to see around 250 youngsters training every Friday evening, around 40 Youths training every Thursday evening, around 50 ladies every Wednesday evening and around 50 Senior members every Tuesday and Thursday evenings. On top of this, the Clubhouse is in constant use by Community organisations and thus far this season, Nant Conwy has raised over £3,000 for cancer Charities.” Challenges/Ambitions “Our biggest challenge is keeping the interest of 2nd Team players due to a lack of matches being played. Our ambitions are; 1) Develop a third playing pitch 2) Tarmacking a larger parking area for the site 3) Developing a ‘Youth/Junior Forum 4) Developing the site to be one of, if not the best, in North Wales 5) Ensuring a high standard of rugby on the pitch 6) Continuing to be as popular as a ‘Community Hub’.” Wyn Davies of Davies Environmental Services recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Nant Conwy Rugby club, “My son Gareth plays flanker for the senior squad and although he is only 19 years old he stepped up from the youth at the beginning of the season and is doing very well. I use to be a tight head prop for Abergele who were a very successful club back in the day. The Nant Conwy seniors have performed exceptionally well this year especially if you take into account the younger players coming on board and not really having a lot of time to gel. Best wishes to everyone at Nant Conwy Rugby Club for the rest of the season!” www.pitchero.com/clubs/clwbrygbinantconwy www.sportip.biz 33
