Club Chairman Ted Britton took the time to tell us more about how the club has been getting along in recent times. He told us, “I have been involved playing/coaching and more recently on the committee at Avonmouth for 25/26 years, having changed codes from soccer to rugby in 1990. My 2 sons have been involved since the age of 4 or 5 and naturally I assisted coaches on training/match days and was talked into taking my level 1and2 RFU badges.” “I became Junior chairman in 2002 for 5/6 years still coaching juniors when my 2 sons progressed into senior rugby at the club, I was very fortunate to play in the same front row as them in a Magaluf tour match in 2005. “I have had the privilege of coaching many of our current senior players as juniors and the reward of seeing them step up into senior teams is immense and my main driving point personally. Avonmouth is a community club and we pride ourselves on it. We share our facilities with National Smelting Boxing Club, a Kick Boxing Club, Dance School and Karate School on different nights of the week. “We have been at Barracks Lane since 1985 so naturally improvements to our facilities have been needed, which prove very difficult to achieve with the recent recession but with the Aid of an RFU grant in 2013 and huge assistance by way of sponsorship/donations from ex-players Darren Taylor (tailored flooring), John Cowell (CBES) along with Ian Long (D+I Interiors) and a host of members donating labour free of charge we refurbished our upstairs function room. “We are very privileged to have kit sponsors, Unite The Union, for the 1st XV and Red Pizza/Bargain Booze as 2nd/3rd XV shirt sponsors. The 1st XV have Haarts Estate Agents as pre match warm up wear supplier, CNS Networks polo shirt sponsors and Boomeco have sponsored 18 Issue 54
