With over 300 players and over 50 coaches in the M&J section, youth rugby is thriving at Wirral. This not only makes a significant contribution to the Club’s finances but it also acts as an academy for players to come up through the age groups and eventually participate in one of the Club’s four Senior rugby teams. What is inspirational for the M&J section is that the 1st XV squad is predominantly made up of players that have come up through the age groups of the M&J section at Wirral providing inspiration for coaches and aspiration for players. Commercial Potential “At Wirral, youth rugby is the lifeblood of the Club. With over 300 players and over 50 coaches in the M&J section, youth rugby is thriving at Wirral.” 14 Issue 54 To maximise our commercial potential, Wirral members from both sections of the club have attended several RFU RWC workshops, providing information and ideas on how to ‘Get Behind England’and use our club as a local community hub for the World Cup. We intend to spread the word as much as possible that our club is the place for members and the local community to watch England and other teams compete in the World Cup. Having recently created an alliance with a local Australian Rules Football team, we will be holding an Australia themed day and also wish to host a Festival of Rugby event, combined with visiting local schools to promote the World Cup; our Minis and Juniors Section are planning to hold a RWC school based fun day, inviting school children and their families to the club and following the success of last year’s beer festival, the event organisers are planning another festival on a match/ World Cup day, to entice more members and the public to get down to our club and watch the game.
