RUMNEY FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Rumney R umney RFC is a terrific example of a well-run club that is achieving success on the field whilst retaining its amateur status. Their Chairman, Derrick Morgan, took the time to tell us more about how they have been getting along lately. He told us, “I have been involved with Rumney Rugby Football Club for over 25 years and served as Treasurer for 18 years. I have always been a Member of a Rugby Club wherever I lived and Rumney is conveniently only 500 yards from my home. The most challenging aspect of my role is the control of the clubs finances and the most rewarding is the realisation that we have managed to pay all of our bills. “The mood at the club at the moment is one of elation due to the fact that our First XV is at present sitting in 2nd position in our League. We are also fielding a 2nd XV, a Youth Team and PAUL FOWLER TIPPER-GRAB HIRE LTD Grab Lorry Hire | Mini Digger Hire Green Waste Removal | Aggregate Supplies Hardcore Removed PHONE: 07967 595 155 129 Lamby Industrial Park, Wentloog Avenue, Rumney, Cardiff CF3 2EX 112 Issue 54 teams at all age groups from Under 7’s to Under 16’s. “As always the success of all teams within the Club would not be possible without the Team Coaches, Team Managers and many volunteers giving freely of their time to promote the game of Rugby. Paul Fowler is an ex player and sponsor of Rumney RFC and he recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I have a big family connection with Rumney, I played as blind side for the youth when I was 17 and then stopped playing and returned a few years later when I was 30. My son Daniel played junior rugby and my nephew Lewis Mills , who was also a product of the clubs mini junior set-up, played rugby for Welsh youth and went on to play rugby league for Welsh Rugby League. My cousin John Leadbeater, who is out with injury with a badly broken arm, is 1st team captain. I can’t speak highly enough about the work the club have performed in the community and the structure, which has been built through hard work. My business Paul Fowler Tipper Hire has sponsored the club for a few seasons and will continue to help as long as we can. I would like to wish everyone associated with the club continue success and good luck for the future.”
