newport saracens one of our ex-players will bring some equipment down to help encourage young children to get involved in rugby. It’s important to grow our youth section to enable us to continue to move forwards as a club.” Community “We are a community club but only with one side at the moment. We want to increase our participation numbers to provide as many people as possible with an opportunity to get involved. We are seeing more of the locals coming along to watch us play which is encouraging.” Challenges “We’re two thirds of the way towards finishing our clubhouse, which was funded by a small loan by the WRU and club money and we want to get that finished. That will definitely be ready for next season and that will be a major boost for us. Growing youth and junior rugby will be a big challenge for us because there are a lot of clubs in Newport with a lot of junior/Mini rugby so there’s a lot of competition for players.” Ambitions “We’re looking for new players coming into the game who want to try rugby. It’s a family club here and anyone coming along will receive a warm welcome. We want to give people a platform to enjoy rugby at Newport Saracens. Over the next five years we want to get the infrastructure right to ensure the sustainability of the club. Twice before the club has failed to fulfil our fixtures so we need to keep the players that we have engaged and ensure that we are always bringing in new players to come and join our family here.” www.newportsaracens.co.uk Twitter : @NewportSaracens www.sportip.biz 91
