nantyglo Mark Griffiths is the current Club President of Nantyglo RFC. He recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “Fifteen years ago I was asked by one of the clubs committee men to come along and watch a match and I have been delighted to be involved with the club ever since. This is my fourteenth season as Club President and I have experienced all the highs and lows you could experience through being involved in a rugby club; from promotion to relegation to struggling for players at times - at one point only having three players available. Nantyglo is a real family club and my position is not a ceremonial one as I have helped with everything from sponsorship to dishing the food out. Paul Cooper who used to be our team manager and I would go around, on occasion, recruiting players for the club. The players and coaches have been exceptional this year and when we moved up to this league the coaches told the boys that their fitness had to improve and that the team had to incorporate more professionalism to their play. The guys have responded 110% and I feel that the team will respond again to what will be asked of them once promoted to Division 1. My business Dowlais Pharmacy Ltd is one of the clubs principal sponsors and I like to help out whenever I can. Steven Jones, who is not your typical No8, is absolutely deadly from 5 yards out and has been our top try scorer this season. In a way I’m looking forward to the seasons end so that my stress levels can reduce down a little but I would like everyone associated with Nantyglo Rugby Club continued success for the future.” Phil Cole is a current committee member of Nantyglo RFC. He recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I was more of a footballer but being diagnosed with arthritis at 23 and my rugby friends being more fun when we went drinking I started to lean towards rugby. The club are enjoying a great season and this is in no small way down to our excellent coaches who are making a noticeable difference. I sponsor the club with my business A-C Tyres & Exhausts and I have to say a special thank you to our local sponsors who have been very kind and supportive to us. I would like to wish them and everyone associated with Nantyglo Rugby Club all the very best for the future.” www.nantyglorfc.co.uk - Twitter : @NantygloRfc www.sportip.biz 37
