The team are an excellent and talented bunch with 18 out of our 25 boys representing Cardiff schools. Next season, we may consider an A and B youth squad which will help with the transition to senior Rugby. The seniors are having a magnificent season with many of the players coming through the clubs system. My business, Don Skene Cycle’s has sponsored the club for the past 10 years and we like to help out whenever we can. As a coach and parent I am very proud of our team and I am confident we can provide our senior team with some great talent in seasons to come.” “You certainly have to be dedicated to the cause and many questions are raised after a game played on some exposed piece of land with the wind seemingly blowing at 90mph and in the monsoon like conditions testing dedication to the full. “From our Director of Rugby, Mark Gains, to the Coaches of the under 7’s (and all in between) we thank you for all of your efforts. We have also an individual who apart from kitchen duties on a Sunday morning also runs the Club Shop, fundraises, fills in Grant applications amongst other things , thankyou Mandy Gee! “Youth Rugby has always played a major role in the development of the game at Rumney RFC. Nearly all of our Youth Team is from the Mini/Junior Section and then progress to the senior sides. Thanks to the dedication of their Committee, Cyril Locke and Ian Coughlin the team enjoys a bi-annual tour abroad usually to the tranquil town of Magaluf. “Despite the many temptations available in Magaluf these tours have always been very successful and trouble free. All thanks for this must go to the ‘wrinklies’ who turn out to guide the boys on We provide free estimates and are based in Rumney Cardiff. We are willing to travel anywhere in the UK. We employ fully qualified Gas Safe registered plumbers and NEC registered electricians and provide all the required legislative documentation. He recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I am a local boy and Rumney is my local club, my lads have all played for the club although Alex is no longer involved my other son’s still compete. Callum is a flanker for the youth and Sam plays prop forward for the U11’s. It is great to see the club enjoying such a great year and I would like to wish everyone continued success well into the future.” this traumatic experience. It is nice to know that bonds are forged on mutual respect and these last a lifetime. “We are a Community Club in all senses of the word. Officially the area that we serve is classified as ‘deprived’. Nobody who wants to play rugby with us is ever refused the opportunity. Our premises are used for parties and all kinds of celebrations and for 5 days a week are transformed into a nursery where children are taught in the medium of Welsh, very exciting when visiting the Club to be greeted by 30 plus youngsters speaking in Welsh. Our Steward is proud of the fact that he can now respond fluently saying ‘Bore da plant’, which translated means ‘Good Morning Children’! “Financial pressures are my major concern and also the retention of players within the game. There are many ‘distractions’ for people to follow. The position of Permit Players , Loan Players and Dual Contracts is a mess, surely it is obscene for a team to Permit or Loan a player who is semi-professional and getting paid to play against a team that does not pay its players. We do not pay any players under any circumstances, how many clubs are able honestly to say this? We need Clubs to be amateur in every sense of the word.” www.rumneyrfc.com- Twitter : @rumney_rfc www.sportip.biz 113
