L ast season Strathaven RFC suffered the disappointment of a relegation following a difficult campaign for their first XV. They have wasted no time turning things around however, having demonstrated their grit, determination and talent to sit proudly atop BT West Division 3. Club Representative Colin Dalgarno took the time to tell us more about the good work that they’ve been doing. He started by telling us about his long-term association with Strathaven, saying, “I’ve been involved with Strathaven RFC since 1993 when I was six years old. Since I began playing for Strathaven RFC I’ve held the roles of Vice-Captain and VicePresident of the club but had to step down last year due to undertaking a master’s degree while still working, this meant that I couldn’t give the role my full attention which wouldn’t have been the best thing for the club. “I’ve been at the club for a very long time and I can honestly say that the mood at 98 Issue 53 the club currently is absolutely fantastic. We’re getting results across the board, not only in outcomes of matches but seeing development across all levels of the club. “Our plan is to keep progressing at all levels, we have a great youth section and for the first time in 4-5 years as well as a full minis section we have a U15’s, U16’s and U18’s team as well as our full senior squad and guys playing in a second’s team jointly with East Kilbride. “Our aim is to keep this going and hopefully with some youth players coming through the age grades we’ll be able to put out a seconds team in the next couple of seasons. In terms of the 1st XV we want to win the league. “Youth Rugby is essential to the club; this was highly evident last season when we had a couple of players move on and no youth players coming through to fill the gaps. This led to our senior squad being
