Sundays Well
B
ased at Musgrave Park on Tramore Road in Cork, Sundays Well RFC currently competes in Division 2B of the Ulster
Bank League. They are led by the team of President Alec Rose and Chairman Michael Powell and the club has been
making a considerable amount of progress under their guidance.
They were first set up in 1906 by a group of choir and
altar boys from St Vincent’s Church, in the parish on
the North side of Cork City. It was from this that the
club took its name.
Since then they have gone on to put together a history
of which they have every right to be proud and one
of the most significant periods came during World
War II. It was at this time that they established a base
at Musgrave Park and begun a ground-share with
Dolphin.
Since then they have gone on to put together a history
of which they have every right to be proud and the
current group of players will be keen to add to these
successes over the coming years.
This season their first team has been playing some
quality rugby which is reflected in their league position.
Up to now they have put together a record of 11 wins, a
draw and 3 defeats which sees them sitting comfortably
in the top half of the table with fifty points on the board.
They will now be keen to finish the season off with a
good run of form in order to finish the campaign on a
high. This would help them to build momentum going
into the off-season as they look to strengthen ahead of
their 2015/16 effort. As long as they can retain their
current group of players and perhaps make one or two
quality additions they should be well set up to achieve
plenty of success.
One of the highlights of the team’s performances this
season has been the strong defensive record that they
have managed to put together. This is reflected in the
fact that they have conceded just 168 points in the
league, giving them one of the best defences in the
competition.
