Andrew Cranton of Caerleon Redimix recently spoke to
Rugby Club Magazine, “My brother Jeff and I both played for
St Julians. I was usually centre or wing and Jeff of course who
played for Pontypool and Newport during their hay day played on
the left wing.
Jeff scored a very memorable try for Newport back then which
many people still comment on to this day. The boys down at St
Julians are a great bunch and it’s wonderful to see them enjoying
a successful season. My son Joe is involved on the committee for
the club and I try and get down when I can although I also follow
the Dragons too so dividing my time can be a challenge at times.
Myself and Jeff would like to congratulate everyone at St Julians
for being chosen to feature in Rugby Club Magazine and wish
everyone at the club continued success.”
section and this is our 9th season. I started off with 4 boys in
our U8's and now we run teams from U7's to U15's this season,
with just over 160 registered players. Next season we will have
U16's and the main reason and focus of setting up the section
will be the introduction of a long overdue Youth section the
following season.
When I first joined the club we ran four teams with substitutes
and would play 30 a side full contact game every training
session. This dwindled to one team and only 13/14 players
turning up for games and 3 - 6 at training. Over the last few
seasons we have attracted more and more players and are
now able to field 2 teams most Saturdays and 20-30 at training.
Shaun Jeffries of club sponsor South Wales Maintenance
recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive
association with the club, “I played from my late teens to early 30’s
for St Julians mainly in the 2nd and back row.
The club are doing well this season from the juniors through to the
seniors. Recently they have had to cope with a lot of injuries, but
it’s also nice to see some new faces down there. I would like to
wish everyone at St Julians all the best for the rest of the season
and encourage them all to keep progressing as they have been.”
