the men’s team as players retire or move from the area
we can have some real peaks and troughs with playing
numbers. At times we’ve had 40 players wanting a
match on a Saturday but we’ve even had to play (and
win) a few with only 13 or 14 fighting fit.
In the coming years we want to continue playing the
game we love, to open it up to new people including
ladies and children and to make sure we provide a club
that the investment from the council, our supporters
and sponsors and the wonderful town of Lymington
rightly deserve.”

As a former playing member of the Lymington Mariners I
was particularly keen to be involved in the regeneration of the
sports pavilion. When Draycott’s were appointed with the task
of redesigning the building a number of sporting disciplines
had to be considered, the most demanding became apparent
quite early on.
The rugby club had the most numbers of players per team,
as well as probably the dirtiest players! We’ve had a lot of
assistance from people like Jason Bowers and his team at the
RFU on the layout so that if we ever wanted to approach the
RFU for funding we would have a building that was compliant.
Planning permission was granted in February, and we’re
aiming to break ground during the summer of 2015. There have
been some amazing people involved in this project, including
current and ex-players, and town councillors, without whom
none of this would have happened.
