Macclesfield FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG A Dad’s view As many Dad’s are, I was handed a coaching jacket three weeks after my lad joined the U6’s. At the time, the only qualification I had was knowing which end of the whistle to blow on. I had, to my shame, never played a game of Rugby in my life (despite being an avid fan of the game). As a non-playing “coach” I was always worried about my lack of knowledge, but more importantly I felt that the rugby community was a closed group of “players in the know”, and I always felt I would struggle to fit in. At Macclesfield RUFC, I found a place in the coaching team and also helping out organising other activities (ball boys on match days for example). Former and current players are always more than willing to share their knowledge and experience (name a rugby player who hasn’t got a “story”!). This plugs my knowledge gaps for my coaching, and to bolster this I have had the opportunity to develop my own coaching skills with First Aid, various CPD courses and RFU Level 1. I’m shortly doing the "Refereeing Children” course. I have found that the people of Macclesfield RUFC are a true rugby family, whether you’re a player, a fan or simply want to check out the egg chasers and see what all the fuss is about.
