stewarts & lloyds (c0rby) FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Stewarts & Lloyds (Corby) S tewarts and Lloyds (Corby) RFC was officially formed in 1936 having played their first match a year earlier against Kettering. The main organisers during the early years were Bert Green, Windsor Genner and Arthur Cooper who had no difficulty setting up fixtures due to the popularity of rugby in the area. Over the years Stewarts and Lloyds have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud and the long term future of the club was secured when they signed a 99 year lease for the clubhouse and three pitches in 1991. The team currently plays their home games on Occupation Road in Northants and their first team competes in the Midlands 2 East (South) League. They are led by the team of President John Davidson and Chairman Adey Mitchell and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. This season it would be fair to say that their first team has not perhaps enjoyed the campaign that they would have liked, having put together a record of six wins and fifteen defeats from their twenty-one league matches played to date. This sees them sitting near the bottom of the table with 31 points on the board. They will now be keen to have a positive off-season in order to ensure that they are able to gain better results next time around. As long as they can retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they will have a good chance of making an improvement. Stewarts and Lloyds is a club that is committed to playing an important role in their local community and this is reflected by the fact that they make their clubhouse available to hire. It has a seating capacity of 120 with a fully fitted kitchen and bar available. It is capable of hosting a variety of different events including parties, group functions, meetings and advice groups. As well as helping the local community this also has the potential to provide the club with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate. Stewarts and Lloyds disappointing campaign at first team level should not take away from the good work that has been getting done at the club in recent times. Rugby Club Magazine would like to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck for the future.
