cheltenham saracens Cheltenham Saracens B ased at the King George V Playing Fields in Gloucestershire, Cheltenham Saracens RFC currently competes in the Gloucester Premier League. Under the leadership of President Roger Harris and Chairman Jimmy O’Shea they pride themselves on being a friendly, welcoming set up that plays an important role in the local community. Their first team has been in fine form this season, having put together a league record of 16 wins, a draw and just 4 defeats from their 21 matches. This has left them sitting in 2nd place in the table with 82 points on the board. Although they would have liked to claim the league title they have performed superbly well this season and can be proud of their efforts. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they will be in with a good chance of a successful campaign again next time around. One of the highlights of the team’s performances so far this season has been the attacking brand of rugby that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have racked up 612 points in the league alone making them one of the top scorers in the competition. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue. As mentioned earlier, this is a club that is committed to playing an important role in their local community and this is reflected by the fact that they run a number of senior sides. This allows them to give far more players an opportunity to play the game every week. Another benefit of having additional teams is that it allows the first team to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling players up with a limited amount of disruption. Cheltenham Saracens success on the field is a reflection of the terrific set up that they have in place behind the scenes. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come and everyone at Rugby Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck. cheltenhamsaracensrugby.com- Twitter : @CheltSarriesRFC www.sportip.biz 35
