maldon Maldon M aldon RFC is based at Drapers Farm Playing Fields in Essex and their first team currently competes in Essex 1. They are led by Chairman Jeremy Wood who is supported by Secretary Simon Peacock and the club has been progressing well under their guidance. Their first team has put together a strong campaign so far this time around having compiled a record of ten wins and nine defeats from their nineteen matches. This has left them sitting in the top half of the table with 53 points on the board as the season draws to a close. They will now be keen to put in good performances in their remaining fixtures in order to finish their season on a high and go into the off-season on a positive note. They can then start to focus upon continuing to improve ahead of their 2015-16 campaign. One of the highlights of the team’s performances this time around has been the attacking brand of rugby that they have been producing. This is reflected in the fact that they have already scored 587 points in the league alone at a rate of more than 30 per game. This will certainly have meant that their supporters have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide the club with a valuable source of additional revenue. Maldon is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a number of youth teams. These sides look to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent if they are to be successful over a sustained period of time and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming months.
