ased at Belle Vue on Medomsley Road in County Durham, Consett RFC currently competes in Division One of the
Durham Northumberland League. They are led by the team of Chairman David Herdman and President Graham Lee
and the club has been progressing well under their guidance.
On the field their first team
has put together a strong
campaign so far this time
around, having compiled
a record of sixteen wins, a
draw and seven defeats from
their 24 matches. This sees
them sitting in the top half
of the table with 81 points on
the board.
With just a couple of games
left to play the team can
reflect positively on a season
that has generally gone well
for the club. This should
provide them with the perfect
platform from which to build
as they start to look ahead
towards next season.
One of the highlights of the
team’s performances this
season has been the attacking
brand of rugby that they
have been producing. This
is reflected by the fact that
they have already racked up
757 points in the league alone
making them one of the top
scorers in the competition.
This will certainly have
meant that any supporters
coming to their matches will
have been well entertained
and should encourage more
of the local community to get
behind the side in the future.
This in turn has the potential
to provide them with a
valuable source of additional
revenue.
A number of players
have been in fine form this
season for Consett with
leading scorer Tom Johnson
providing them with high
quality
leadership
from
Scrum Half. In total he has
racked up 89 points and
has proven himself to be a
reliable place kicker.
This is an area that Consett
have been very strong with
both Nick Cook and Alex
Paulus also kicking well.
Luke Draper has been a key
part of the attacking rugby
that the side has played this
season having scored 15
tries in just 13 appearances.
Consett will be hoping that
these players can continue to
perform to a high level in the
future.
Off the field there is
plenty to be excited about
as well with their £640,000
clubhouse
development
nearing completion. There
have been some difficulties
along the way but the new
