ounded in 1875, Redruth RFC is a club with a proud and action packed history and considered by many in the game
as the home of Cornish rugby.
Based at the Recreation Ground in Redruth, many high profile
representative fixtures have been hosted by the club over the
decades with a variety of international teams visiting, including
the mighty New Zealand ‘All Blacks’.
For a long period of time, the Recreation Ground was the third
largest rugby union venue in England and in 1969 a crowd of in
excess of twenty thousand spectators witnessed Cornwall play
Lancashire in the English County Championship Final.
With the introduction of league rugby in season 1987/88,
Redruth RFC immediately won promotion to the national
leagues and have proudly remained in level 4 or above ever
since. In 2005, the club reached its highest ever ranking by
winning promotion to National Division 1 and finished 4th in
that league during the 2006/7 season.
However, in recent seasons the quest to maintain their league
standing, as with many clubs up and down the Country, led to
difficult times and extensive measures had to be taken in late
2013 to address the mounting ‘off field’ financial and operating
pressures.
With a new Executive Committee and coaching team introduced
for season 2014/15, there was a strong determination and positive
mood within the club to reinstate all round stability and much
