They are led by the team of Chairman Neil Hopper and President Dave Dougans and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. This season it would be fair to say that they have not perhaps enjoyed the campaign that they would have liked, having put together a record of six wins and eighteen defeats from their 24 matches. This has left them sitting near the bottom of the table with 33 points on the board. They will be keen to perform well in their final two league fixtures in order to ensure that they finish the season on a high to give them some momentum heading into the off-season. They can then focus upon improving their squad in order to do better next time around. One of the standout features of the Oxford Harlequins set up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area that they appear to have covered. It will certainly be interested to see how their juniors can develop in the coming years. It can be difficult for youngsters to make the transition into senior rugby and to tackle this problem Oxford Harlequins also have a number of additional sides running. This allows them to give players experience of the adult game even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having additional sides in place is that it allows the first XV to benefit from greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling players up with a limited amount of disruption. Although Oxford Harlequins first team have had a difficult season they continue to play an important role in their local community. Rugby Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck for the future.
