“I am a founder member of Caerleon Rugby Club. The very
first team was organised by Mr Colin Tuckwell and Mr Vernon
Giles in 1971 and met and celebrated in the White Hart Pub.
The present club house was opened for the season of 1981.
The club started as a local pub side, if you owned a pair of
boots you played. In those days we even had a pint of beer
before the game. Today the general mood of the club is electric.
The camaraderie amongst our players is brilliant. The noise of
chatter and laughter before the games is deafening.
The club has always been an integral part of the community
with most of the players living locally. We are grateful to have
several local sponsors who help fund the club. I am looking
forwards to the future and would like to see the players
commitment rewarded by going into a higher division. At the
moment the club is a very successful village side offering the
opportunity to local youngsters to engage with sport whilst
being a centre for community use. Long may it continue.”

Simone Ansen is a club sponsor at Caerleon Rugby
Club with her business, The Stuffed Doremouse
Restaurant & Bar. She recently spoke to Rugby Club
Magazine about her positive association with the
club, “I am a rugby fan and my business has been
approached on many occasions for sponsorship and
we have gracefully declined however when the guys
from Caerleon contacted me I decided to take them
up on their offer primarily because we are very keen
on working with and within our local community and
Caerleon are very much a community club.
I know a lot of the club members and players, many
of which frequent our restaurant, they are a good
happy bunch and certainly know how to have a good
laugh. It’s wonderful to be associated with the club
whilst they are enjoying such a successful season
and my staff and I would like to wish everyone at the
club continued success.”
