oakdale FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Oakdale O akdale RFC competes in Division 3 East A of the Swalec Leagues and has been playing some terrific rugby this season. We caught up with Club Representative Julian Baldwin to find out more about the good work they have been doing lately. Involvement He told us, “I have been Club Treasurer since 2009. I played 82 times for the club during the late 80s and early 90s having grown up in the village but then moved away to study. The most challenging aspect is keeping everyone happy whilst at the same time balancing the books. Every different customer group wants different things (facilities improvements, price discounts, entertainment etc). The most rewarding aspect is being able to improve the club facilities for the benefit of all members.” Atmosphere “The mood here is excellent, we move into March and we are in the quarter finals of the Ben Francis (District) cup and will play Abergavenny at home before the end of March and we are also in the quarter finals of the SWALEC Bowl against Nantyffyllon, the furthest we have ever gone in the competition. Our league form is good and if we win our games in hand we will be in the promotion places. We have welcomed six players under the age of 20 into the squad this season, we have lost 3 games, drawn one and won 14 and our junior section has now grown to four teams (U7s – U10s).” POST OFFICE NOW OPEN 6.30AM-9.30PM 7 DAYS PER WEEK 110 Issue 53
