Cumnock
B
ased at 55 Auchinleck Road, Cumnock RFC currently competes in Division 3 of the BT West Regional Leagues. Their
home colours are red and black and they have been progressing well in recent times.
Their first team has been in fine form so
far this season, putting together a record
of 9 wins and just 3 defeats from their first
12 matches. This has left them sitting top
of the table with 41 points on the board as
the campaign enters its final period.
Although there are still a number of
teams in the running, as long as Cumnock
are able to keep up their recent level of
performance they should have a good
chance of going on to claim the title.
Club Representative Tommy Cunnigham
took the time to tell us more about the
club and the good work that they’ve been
100 Issue 53
doing. He said, “The club was formed in
1961 and so we have been going for over
53 years and from going from meeting
in a back of a pub to having our own
clubhouse we have 1st, 2nd, U18 sides as
well as various youth teams.
This year we have worked very hard to
gain the BT West Regional Bowl which
allowed us to play in the BT National
Bowl Semi Final against Ross High on the
7th March. We are also sitting top of the
table of BT West Division 3.
We are a small club with big hearts as we
have many helpers in our club and due
to the good coaching over the
years we have had Mark Bennett
who came through the youth
and senior sections and is now
playing for Glasgow Warriors
and Scotland.”
There is much to admire about
the work that Cumnock RFC has
been doing in recent times and a
league title would be a just reward
for the efforts of everyone involved.
Rugby Club Magazine wishes them
the best of luck for the remainder of
the season.
