Ray Thomas is a club sponsor and fan of Betws RFC and he
spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association
with the club, saying, “I became more involved with Betws through
my lads playing there and try and help out with sponsorship
whenever I can. Although we have a good relationship between
my business and the club members, where I support them and
they support me, I feel that it runs a lot deeper than that.
I get to as many games as I can and it is great to see the team
playing so well with such a good mix of lads. I will continue to help
and support the club out whenever I can and wish everyone at
Betws Rugby Club continued success for the rest of the year.”
Alan Williams is a club sponsor, steward and ex
player of Betws RFC and recently spoke to Rugby Club
Magazine, saying, “I moved to Betws after a serious knee
injury stopped my playing career at Swansea. My main
position was scrum half and when I started coaching
at Betws I naturally ended up on the pitch again until 5
years ago, at the age of 48, another injury, this time my
shoulder, put a final end to my playing career.
My son Rhodri has had a very successful playing career
with the Scarlets and scored an international try against
Scotland last year. He is still only in his early 20s and I’m
sure has a long career ahead of him. He still has many
good friends at the club who played mini rugby with him.
The Betws first team are themselves a very young side
and are doing very well this year, it is tight at the top of
the league. I would like to wish everyone associated with
Betwys Rugby Club the best of success for the rest of the
season.”

The club has a thriving catering
side with Sunday lunches
provided by Susan and Eddie
Bowen proving a huge draw.
Buffets to order and Wedding
Breakfasts are also catered
for and most visiting teams
complement the staff for the
quality of their post-match
meals.
The Club has recently become
incorporated, a development
urged by the WRU to protect
the volunteers that run such
a club as Betws. A committee
chaired by Rhydian Murray
and ably assisted by Secretary
Jeff Thomas and Treasurer
Les Sambrook ensures that
the club is run and managed
in a manner suitable to the
prevailing economic conditions
and support is provided by the
other hardworking members
of the committee. Local
sponsors provide much needed
assistance and they are ably
looked after by Ted Williams,
the
club's
Commercial
Manager.
Although the future looks
secure, all at the club know that
the way ahead is the forming of
a much needed junior section to
ensure that the supply of local
talent forms the basis of the
club for years to come.
