Ellesmere Port
RFC
B
ased at the Whitby Sports and Social Club on Chester Road in Cheshire, Ellesmere Port Rugby Club has been making
superb progress over recent years, developing into a terrific example of a well-run, community establishment. With
senior teams, a veteran team, mini and junior sections and ladies rugby Ellesmere Port is truly a club that has
something to offer for everyone.
Pride of the North
Their superb work has not gone
unrecognised either with the club having
won the Pride of the North Award in 2013
and 2014. In 2014 more than 2,600 people
voted for the Oilers to receive the award
for which they received a commemorative
plaque, a barbeque and a visit from
England’s World Cup Winner Neil Back.
Back joined the club for the NatWest
RugbyForce weekend and told www.
chesterchronicle.co.uk, “Ellesmere Port
deserves a lot of credit having won the
Pride of the North for the second year in
a row.

shown what can happen when the
community gets behind their club. It was
great to come down to Ellesmere Port
over NatWest RugbyForce weekend and
witness their community spirit first hand.
I really enjoyed getting stuck in and wish
the club all the best for the future.”
This Season
Competing in the South Lancs/Cheshire
Division 3, their first team have been
in good form so far this season, putting
together a record of 5 wins and 4 defeats
from their 9 matches. This has left them
sitting in the top half of the table with 27
points on the board.
A particular highlight of the team’s
performances has been the attacking
brand of rugby that they have been able
to produce under the guidance of Head
Coach Steve Dorrington. This is reflected
by the fact that they have racked up an
impressive 297 points at a rate of more
than 30 per game.
In Form
Their form so far leaves them well
positioned for a strong second half of the
season and they sent out a message to
