RFC
H
aving made the move to their new home, Doric Park at the end of 2013 Trowbridge RFC enjoyed fantastic success,
winning promotion and the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham. We caught up with their Rugby Operations
Manager Kevin Davis to find out how they are getting along this season.
Atmosphere
Integration
He told us, “The general mood of the club is particularly
positive. The senior teams have enjoyed great success and the
members have been able to watch a good standard of
rugby. We have had the opportunity to host a
number of significant rugby events which
has enhanced the clubs status and as a
result the feel good factor. Since the
move the club mini's and youth
section has grown and become
more integrated which has
also contributed greatly to the
greater good of the club.”
“Along with the experience of many clubs integrating young
players into senior rugby has been challenging and we have
experienced the general trend of players leaving the game
at around 16 years old. That said, for those that we
do retain we are pro-active in encouraging them
to attend senior training sessions and when
eligible we provide them with senior
game time. This approach allows
their exposure to senior rugby to be
managed properly in a progressive
manner. We have seen the benefit
of this in the last couple of seasons
as the average age of the 1st XV
has reduced considerably.”
This Season
“After
promotion
last
season the 1st XV have
more than held their own
and are currently sat in
a respectable mid table
position having played some
competitive and attractive
rugby. Arguably they should
be occupying a higher position
in the league given the number of
close fought losses.
The season for both the 2nd and 3rd
XV’s has been more challenging. However
whilst both teams have had a bit of a mixed
bag with regard to results, they have established
themselves just below the mid-table point and at glance at the
bonus point columns within the respective league tables tells
you that both teams are competitive.
