whitecraigs Whitecraigs RFC F irst established in 1928, Whitecraigs Rugby Club is based at West Lodge on Aurs Road in East Renfrewshire and their first team currently competes in the BT National League Division 2. They are led by President Jon Jewitt who is supported by Secretary Graeme Scott and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. The club has built itself a reputation for being a welcoming, friendly club that encourages anyone with an interest in the game to get involved. They have a history of which they have every right to be proud and have certainly come a long way since being set up when players had to wash themselves in the local stream after matches! This season, their first team’s form has generally been good, having put together a record of 8 wins and 6 defeats from their first 14 games. This sees them sitting in the top half of the table with 40 points on the board. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to build as they head into the final games of the season. As long as they are able to keep their key players fit and maintain their recent level of performance they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the table in order to finish the season on a high. One of the standout features of the Whitecraigs set up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area that Whitecraigs appears to have covered. With a Club Development Officer and a Modern Apprentice spending their time in local Primary and Secondary Schools they are sure to continue producing exciting rugby talents for many years to come. There is much to admire about Whitecraigs Rugby Club and the work that they have been doing in recent times both on and off the field. This should enable them to look forwards to a bright and successful future and everyone at Rugby Club Magazine would like to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck. Hotdoggers
