Founded in 1884, the club originally played in Dagg’s field and relocated to Tyone, where they still maintain a pitch, in the 1950s. In the club’s centenary year (1984) the current grounds at New Ormond Park, Lisatunny, were officially opened. Nenagh Ormond became a Senior club in the 2004/05 season and were competitive in Division 2B (originally Division 3) and pushing for promotion for several years before finally making the breakthrough last year. The dedication and commitment of the Senior Team resulted in an impressive unbeaten 201314 season which saw them promoted to Division 2A. The coaching structures and player development from youth level up have been a major factor in the club’s success. The majority of the current team are locally based and came up through these structures from a young age. Led by Head Coach and player Derek Corcoran, who has scored over 50 AIL tries in his career, the expertise and experience available to the club is invaluable. Both Derek and assistant coach Mike Kennedy are local men which adds to the sense of local pride and community in the club. Team Manager Keith Hayes is also local and a former club captain and he has given many dedicated years to the club. Nenagh Ormond are also very proud of past players Munster and Ireland international Donnacha Ryan and Munster, Leinster and Ireland player 32 Issue 52 Trevor Hogan who both started their rugby careers at Nenagh Ormond and still come to support the club when they can. Indeed, Trevor Hogan played no small part in the club’s recent success, stepping down after three years working alongside Derek Corcoran as Senior Team Head Coach at the end of last season after promotion was secured. Mini and Juvenile Rugby are very popular at Nenagh Ormond. With training every Sunday morning and regular Blitzes against clubs from around the country, mini rugby caters for boys and girls from Under 8’s to Under 12’s. Participation and fair play are cornerstones of the game with coaches focussing on developing the values and traditions associated with rugby as well as the technical skills needed for the sport. Nenagh Ormond also competes from Under 13’s right up to Under 20’s and the work done by the club’s dedicated J u v e n i l e Committee and coaching and management teams, as well as Community Rugby Officer Pat Fitzpatrick, Youth Coordinator Paul Collins and Mini Coordinator Martin Brislane, can be seen in the young players coming through. This hard work leads to success on the pitch and this season our Under 14’s are East Munster League Champions. We are also lucky to have a dedicated and supportive group of parents who can always be counted on to help out. Nenagh Ormond field a successful Ladies team who were unbeaten last season in Division 2 South taking them to an AllIreland Semi Final. The club places great importance on growing the women’s game and indeed on the role of women in the club. All at Nenagh Ormond know Club Secretary Theresa Hassey and would readily acknowledge the huge contribution she makes to the club and the Juvenile Committee also have a committed and hard-working Secretary in Fiona Cusack. The club President for the 2012/13 season was former Ladies player J e n n i f e r
