aving agreed a four year extension to their existing
partnership last year, RBS will continue to sponsor
the Six Nations Championship up until at least 2017. We caught
up with their Rugby Sponsorship Manager Lee Bailey to find out
more about their partnership.
Involvement
He told us, “I joined RBS about this time last year, before that I’d
worked with Guinness on their Premiership Rugby Programme.
This is my 2nd RBS Six Nations sponsorship but I’ve been involved
with rugby for a long time before that.
From being a fan I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the Six Nations. I’ve got
some good memories and some worse ones! I remember coming
up to Scotland twice in 2 years and watched us lose both games, it
was still a great experience though. I went to France a few years ago
to watch France vs Wales when Wales had an amazing 2nd half to
come back to win. As an England fan, finally winning a Grandslam
in 2003 and then going on to win the World Cup after that was a
huge highlight. Having been a fan for so long it is fantastic to now
be involved.
I think a lot will rest on the first game. If England can win away
in Cardiff, you’d say they’ll be strong all the way through but they
didn’t have the best Autumn whereas Ireland looked very strong.
Scotland played some open rugby as well so it’s a hard one to call
at the moment. We shall see!”
