HUDDERSFIELD HUDDERSFIELD Based at Lockwood Park on Brewery Drive, Huddersfield RUFC currently competes in the National League 2 North. They are led by the team of President Richard Gudgeon and Chairman Mark Birch and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. They have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud since they were first established with the game beginning in Huddersfield at the Athletic Club in 1869 and they amalgamated with St John’s Cricket Club in 1879. In recent times, one of their greatest successes came when they managed to win the Yorkshire Cup for the 2nd time in its history following a superb 25-18 victory over Hull at York. The current group of players will be keen to claim further success in the coming years and are confident they have the talent to do so. Their first team has had a steady start to the current campaign, having compiled a record of 1 win, 1 draw and 2 defeats from their first 4 matches. This leaves them sitting in a safe mid-table position with 8 points on the board so far. There are still plenty of games left to play and the team will be confident of putting together a successful campaign. As long ONE17 ARCHITECTS & INTERIOR DESIGNERS as they are able to retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they will have a good chance of pushing on up the league. Huddersfield is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however as they also has a number of youth teams in place. These sides look to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. When Huddersfield RUFC was ready to move from its former ground, it found One 17 Architects the perfect partner to help mastermind the relocation to Lockwood Park. One 17 negotiated planning approval for the club, making skilful use of the mix of commercial and green belt land available on the site, previously the home of a local brewery. Careful retention and conversion of the high quality existing buildings was combined with the construction of superb new pitches to produce one of the most striking home grounds in the north. One17 are architects and interior designers with exceptional vision and relentless attention to detail. In fact the company was so pleased with the resulting development that it converted the old stable building that overlooks the first team pitch as offices for itself! Now relocated to new offices a mile away, One 17 is today better known for its work on high end bespoke residential projects but continues to support rugby in the town and has since helped swimming, football and tennis projects across the area.
