STEADWARDS OLD BOY’S
ST.EDWARD’S
OLD BOYS
Based at the Catholic Institute, Bishops Court,
St.Edwards Old Boys currently competes in Division
1 of the North Lancashire League Division 1. They
are led by the team of President Nick Melville and
Chairman David Moran and are looking to progress
under their guidance.
The team endured a tough season last time around
as they finished near the bottom of the league with a
less than impressive record. They did manage to avoid
relegation however and this gave them the opportunity
to re-build during the summer in order to do better this
time around.
It did not turn out to be an easy off-season however as
a meeting was held to decide how the club would be
able to progress with concern about continuing in their
current league. The decision was made to press on and
they have now started the campaign.
Unfortunately they have not gotten off to the start that
they would have liked but this is not surprising given the
difficult period they have been through. They are yet to
win in their first 3 matches and this has left them sitting
bottom of the table.
There is still plenty of the season left to go however
and the team will be looking to improve over the coming
weeks. It will be important for them to get a win on the
board as soon as possible in order to build momentum
for the rest of the campaign.
So long as they are able to hold on to their current group
of players they should have a platform from which to
build and a couple of good quality additions could help
them to climb the league.
Although the club is enduring a difficult period at the
moment it still has some committed volunteers who are
keeping the side going. If they are able to continue to
put in the hard work hopefully they will be rewarded with
more of the local community getting behind the side in
order to help them to progress.
Many clubs have been through difficult times and St
Edward’s Old Boys are currently going through such a
period. The people that have kept them going deserve
a tremendous amount of credit and hopefully they will
be able to lead them into a more prosperous period.
Everyone at Rugby Club Magazine would like to wish
them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
